Carry Forward

Carry Forward, in the context of employee leave management, refers to the practice of allowing employees to carry over any unused or unutilized leave days from one leave cycle or financial year to the next. The leave days that are eligible for carry forward are often associated with annual leave, also known as privilege leave. These are typically granted as part of an employee’s benefits package. There is often a limit on the number of leave days that can be carried forward. In some cases, employees may have the option to encash their carried-forward leave days. This means that they can receive monetary compensation for the unused leave days, typically calculated based on their basic salary. The duration for which leave can be carried forward varies.
